A SCHOOLGIRL was delighted when her dog was chosen as one of the best in its breed at Crufts.
Paige Harker's Staffordshire bull terrier, Tyler, was awarded fourth place in its class at the show.
The 12-year-old pupil at Darlington's Longfield School and her two-year-old dog saw off serious competition from seasoned campaigners from across the country.
"For a 12-year-old to get so far is amazing," said Paige's mother, Tracie.
"It wasn't a children's category, she was up against some really experienced people."
Paige's father, Reuben, also enjoyed success at Crufts when his terrier, Tia, finished third in their category.
"Paige has followed my husband around various dog shows over the years and eventually decided she might as well get her own," said Mrs Harker.
"She was stunned when she finished fourth, and she's got a real taste for it now."
