A YOUNG soldier from Darlington is about to join his unit in Iraq after completing his military training.
Rifleman John Robinson, 19, from Firth Moor, completed the combat infantryman's course at Catterick last week.
After a short period of leave, and a further two weeks cultural training, Rifleman Robinson will join his unit, the 2nd Battalion The Rifles, who are serving in Iraq.
He said: "I'm just delighted I've passed the course, it was hard work, but we did have a lot of laughs."
The former Eastbourne School pupil added: "Joining the Army has been a real challenge, but I feel as though I've a real career and prospects."
