A PAINTING competition for primary school children has been launched in Darlington.

Sainsbury's, in Victoria Road, Darlington, has set up the competition as part of its Red Nose Day fundraising.

Primary school pupils in Darlington and the surrounding area are being invited to paint an A4 picture with a red nose theme.

Entries can be dropped off at the customer service desk in Sainsbury's by Thursday, March 15. The entry fee is 50p, which will go to Comic Relief.

The winner will receive 100 Active Kids vouchers for their school. The runner-up will receive 50 vouchers, and third place will receive 25.

Active Kids vouchers can be exchanged for school sports equipment.

Sainsbury's charities organiser, Marie Steward, said: "The paintings can be any kind of red nose or comic relief theme. It could be a teacher wearing a red nose, it could be anything."

Usually, customers must spend £10 to receive one Active Kids voucher.

Sainsbury's is also holding other fundraising activities on Saturday, March 10, including a sponsored head shaving and leg waxing for male staff.
