WITNESSES are being urged to come forward after a woman was assaulted in Darlington.

The woman was walking on Eastbourne Road, near the Lawns Care home, on Thursday (March 5) evening when she was approached by a man, who became verbally abusive before assaulting her.

The incident, which happened between 6.30pm and 7pm, was over quickly and the woman walked off at speed towards Milton Street.

The man may have walked in the opposite direction.

He is described as being white, around 30-years-old, and of medium build. He has short brown hair with a swept over fringe, a large nose and chiselled facial appearance.

The man spoke with a local accent and was wearing a black top with dark bottoms.

Detective Constable John Tyers, of Darlington CID, said: “If you know who this male may be then I appeal for you to contact CID at Darlington in the strictest of confidence as the female victim has been left very upset.

“This is a very rare occurrence and I reassure you all that statistics show Darlington to be a safe place to live.”

Anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious can call DC Tyers on 101 or call 01325-742771.
