FOUR former teachers are to cycle more than 300 miles through Brittany to raise funds for Prostate Cancer UK.

This is the fourth year in a row that Richard Biddle, Brian Hunter, John Thorley and Martin Thompson, who previously taught at Carmel College, in Darlington, have cycled on the continent.

"The first year we followed the route Henry V took before Agincourt and we raised nearly £3000 for breast cancer research" said Mr Biddle.

"We followed this up with rides through Holland and Spain and this year we are going back to France."

Mr Hunter said: "We are doing this ride to support research into prostate cancer as one in eight men will develop prostate cancer and almost everyone either knows, or knows of someone who has had the disease".

He added: "Raising awareness is so important. Four out of five men at higher than average risk of prostate cancer are unaware of the danger and are therefore not having the vital conversations with GPs that could save their lives."
