AWARDS have been handed out to recognise good work in Darlington schools.

Both individuals and schools were honoured for their work during the past year at the annual children's services conference which was held at the Hall Garth Hotel, in Coatham Mundeville.

The winners at the awards night were:

* Excellence in Performance (Secondary) key stage two to four - Carmel RC College.

* Teacher of the Year (Primary) - Louise Abbott, Abbey Junior School

* Teacher of the Year (Secondary) - Michael McMonigle, Hurworth School

* Teaching Assistant of the Year - Dawn Kilpatrick, Firthmoor Primary School

* Governor of the Year - Veronica Copeland, Eastbourne School

* School Council of the Year - Longfield School

* Most Inclusive School - Carmel RC College

* Excellence in Performance (Primary) - Firthmoor Primary School

* Excellence in Performance (Secondary) key stage two to three - Branksome School

* Best Practice in Attendance (Primary) - St Teresa's RCVA Primary School

* Best Practice in Attendance (Secondary) - Branksome School

* Best Attainment for Traveller Pupils - Dodmire Junior School

* Best Practice for Looked-After Children - Skerne Park Primary School

* Best Innovative Practice - Darlington College.
