MEMBERS of a long-running local arts group will present its first exhibition in a Darlington gallery this month.

The Darlington Society of Arts has brought together a collection of work from its members, who range from beginners to more experienced artists, for a display at the Crown Street Art Gallery.

The exhibition runs until Thursday, June 6 and will showcase paintings, ceramics, woodwork and decorative metal work, along with some pieces created using computers.

The Crown Street Art Gallery, based in Darlington’s main library, opened a year ago and has since featured ten local and regional art exhibitions.

Darlington Society of Arts was established in 1922 to stimulate interest in the creation and appreciation of art and craftwork in the Darlington area.

The group meets every Wednesday Hummersknott Academy’s Arts Studio for talks, demonstrations and workshops Richard Moses, a member of the society, said: “The Crown Street gallery is a wonderful exhibition space but not too many people know about it. We are hoping that people will come in to see the work done by artists from the local area.

“Since the art centre closed there has been an awful lot of work done by people in Darlington who support the arts and this exhibition shows that.”
