BIKE MARKING: A free bike marking event will be held by Darlington Police in the town centre on Sunday. The event marks the beginning of the Summer Night crime prevention campaign and will be held between 11am and 4pm on Sunday, May 5 at Joseph Pease Place. People are encouraged to bring their bikes down for marking to combat bike theft and enable the return of bikes that have been stolen. PCSOs will be assisted by the Darlington Neighbourhood Watch Association.

DOOR SELLERS: Police in Darlington have asked people to be wary of traders selling items door to door and to check their credentials before buying. Officers have received reports of people in a white Ford Transit van selling fish at homes around Darlington. A police spokeswoman said: “If persons attend your address selling items door to door please ensure you verify their credentials to ensure they are legitimately selling goods door to door, and if you are unsure refuse to buy.”

JAZZ CONCERT: American jazz pianist and vocalist Jeff Barnhart will return to Darlington on Saturday, May 4, to appear at the first Darlington Arts Festival. Mr Barnhart started his professional music career at the age of 14 playing piano in a local sing-along and is now hailed as one of America’s most versatile pianists. Tickets for the performance, which starts at 12.30 pm at Central Hall, in the Dolphin Centre, Darlington, are £8.50. They are available on the door.

COMEDY CLUB: The next Hilarity Bites Comedy Club event, held at The Forum, in Borough Road, Darlington, will feature comedians John Gavin, Sam Gore and Scott Gibson. Doors open at 7.30pm on Saturday, May 4. Tickets for the event are £10, available on the door.

WARD SURGERY: The councillors for Heighington and Coniscliffe, Gerald Lee and Paul Crudass, will hold a ward surgery for local residents on Saturday, May 4, between 10am and 11am at Piercebridge Village Hall.
