SWIMMERS in Darlington donned their goggles and joined thousands of others around the country to take part in a national charity fundraiser.

The Swimathon raised tens of thousands of pounds for Marie Curie Cancer Care.

Darlington’s leg of the event was staged at the Dolphin Centre pool on Saturday (April 27) and Sunday afternoons.

More than 600 pools across the country hosted Swimathon sessions, with participants able to compete individually or as part of a team.

The charity cares for people with terminal illnesses, nursing them through their final days.
