A FENCING club has benefited from the fundraising efforts of Prince’s Trust students in Darlington.

As part of the Prince’s Trust 12-week programme, the students worked with the Street Swords fencing club and the YMCA to organising a mini fencing tournament at the Education village for a group of young carers.

They managed to raise £165 through a bag pack at Morrisons to put towards the costs of the event and they donated the £100 surplus to Street swords to buy medals for future tournaments.

Prince’s Trust team leader Martin Copley said: “It’s always a pleasure to be part of something like this event with the YMCA young carers and to see young people from varying backgrounds and abilities come together and achieve goals like the Prince's Trust 12-week programme.

“I am hoping to continue with the same enthusiasm and motivation with my next team that is due to start on May 7.

“Anyone looking to make some positive changes to theirs and others, lives could be a student on the next programme.”
