A DARLINGTON swimmer has enjoyed a gold rush after winning every event she entered at a national championships.

Jay McCabe entered the National Junior and Youth Disability Championships at Ponds Forge Pool, in Sheffield, days before her 11th birthday.

Competing in the 10 to 13 age group, Jay swam in seven events, recorded seven personal best times and won seven gold medals.

With results ranked according to the British Disability Points awarded for each swim, and a medal handed out for each year group, Jay scored the most points of any 10 to 13-year-old swimmer in the 100m breaststroke event.

Jeff Stevenson, Jay’s coach at Darlington Swimming Club, said: “Jay has been working very hard in training, and she is putting into practice everything that we have been working on.

“Her attitude this weekend was excellent, she was very focused and I could barely fault any of the seven swims.”

As well as her success in Sheffield, Jay also swam at the inaugural British Gas International Swimming Meet, in Leeds, where she competed against Paralympic champion Eleanor Simmonds.
