MORE than 93 per cent of first class deliveries in Darlington were made the day after posting, according to new figures.
Royal Mail said the company bettered its targets for delivering parcels and second class post, 98.6 per cent of which was delivered within three days of posting, across the town.
The figures released relate to the period between April and December 2012 in the DL postcode area.
In a statement the Royal Mail said the results for the DL area were a result of a modernisation programme, with new technology and equipment, which allows postmen and women to deliver more parcels to customers.
Royal Mail delivery director Bob Storey said: “This is traditionally Royal Mail’s toughest quarter with a steep rise in mail volumes, notably parcels and the likelihood of bad weather.
“We are pleased that we are continuing to deliver high quality service to our customers in the DL postcode area. Our postmen and women work extremely hard to deliver to some of the most demanding standards in Europe.”
