A DARLINGTON art gallery will hold an Alice in Wonderland-themed day as part of a series of events aimed at encouraging more people to enjoy oil paintings.
The BBC Your Paintings project will give people the chance to see some of the artworks usually locked away in archives across the country.
Darlington’s Crown Street Art Gallery will display a 1957 painting of Alice in Wonderland author Lewis Carroll at St Peter’s Rectory in Croft.
The writer, real name Charles Dodgson, lived in Croft as a child.
The painting will be unveiled at 10am on Tuesday, February 19.
Nick Wallis, Darlington Borough Council’s cabinet member with responsibility for the arts, said: “BBC Your Paintings is a wonderful way to encourage people to see and enjoy the wealth of oil paintings here in the UK.
“The oil painting is a beautiful, vibrant and colourful piece of art which I am sure people will be delighted to see and take great inspiration from.
“I am keen to see how people get on when recreating their own versions of the painting throughout the day and do hope that people enjoy the Victorian-themed workshops and activities.”
Alice in Wonderland-themed activities and performances will be held at the gallery from 10am to 4pm.
They are free, but places are limited and children must be accompanied by an adult.
