A DARLINGTON bar will be able to serve alcohol until 1am after the council agreed change its licence.

The owners of Avalon, on Blackwellgate, in Darlington, had applied to Darlington Borough Council to make a number of changes to the licence, including longer opening hours both on a morning and an evening.

The council’s licensing committee voted to permit Avalon’s opening hours to be altered so that it can open at 9am for the sale of breakfasts and morning coffee and to close at 1.30am, half an hour after licensable activities have ceased.

The bar’s current opening hours are 11am to 12.30am, Monday to Friday; 11am to 1.30am Friday and Saturday, and 11am to 11.30pm on Sundays.

The extension to the licensed hours will apply both inside and outside the building, with a number of conditions placed on regulated entertainment in the outdoor area.

Licence holder David Johnson had also applied to remove a condition restricting the maximum occupancy to 110 people, but the licensing committee said the condition must remain until the fire authority is satisfied it can be altered.
