ORGANISERS of a country fair near Darlington have donated £1,000 to a military charity.

The people behind Hurworth Country Fair handed over the money to Help for Heroes last night (November 9), after raising the cash during their event in September.

The cheque was presented during an annual Remembrance concert by Hurworth Concert Band in the village’s community centre.

Keith Sandick, chairman of the concert band, said he was delighted the fair’s success had allowed them to support the charity.

He said: “We did extremely well with the fair and decided because of that success to give the money to Help for Heroes.

“We also had buckets out for people to donate change, and all of that will go to the charity too.

“We always try to help charities and last year donated money to St Teresa’s Hospice."
