NHS County Durham and Durham Wildlife Trust are inviting men and boys of all ages to take part in a sponsored walk at Rainton Meadows Nature Reserve on Saturday 27 June 2009. The Reserve is situated just off the A690 near Houghton-le-Spring. The walk starts at 12.30pm until 3.30pm with an easy one mile circuit around the beautiful nature reserve where those taking part can do as many, or as few, circuits as they like. Women and girls are encouraged to come along and offer support to their men and boys. Health professionals from NHS County Durham and NHS Darlington’s public health team will be on hand to carry out optional BMI (Body Mass Index) checks and give information and advice. Men’s health support groups will also be attending the event to give general information about men’s health issues. If you think you’re up to the challenge, contact the Durham Wildlife Trust on 0191 5843112 to register and obtain your sponsor form or complete the form below. Registration costs £2.00 per person or £1.00 for Wildlife Trust members. All proceeds from the walk will be shared between Men’s Health Charities and Durham Wildlife Trust. Elaine Jackson, NHS public health team’s health improvement specialist, said: This is a great opportunity to encourage local men and boys to use their local surroundings and become more involved in community based health related activities. "By promoting men’s awareness of lifestyle issues and general healthier style of living we hope to improve the lives of local men and boys.” ENDS For further information, please contact the communications on 0191 333 3386.
