A COLLEGE has held its first summer graduation ceremonies since it was allowed to grant its own degrees.
New College Durham was granted foundation degree awarding powers in 2011.
Previously, its courses were accredited by other universities.
It handed out its first such honours in March, but has now held its first multiple subject graduation.
More than 130 students attended, across 26 courses covering Higher National Certificates, Higher National Diplomas, foundation degrees, honours degrees and PGCEs.
Principal and chief executive John Widdowson said: “This was a historic occasion for the college as we congratulated our students on successfully gaining their awards, with many graduating from a foundation degree awarded by New College Durham.”
The guest speaker was Justin Urquhart Stewart, a financial commentator and co-founder of Seven Investment Management.
