The Coast Project aims to protect wildlife such as migratory birds, and habitats that have been disturbed while feeding or nesting, along the North East coastline.

Although the coast is protected by national legislation, the coast project does the most to ensure wildlife and habitats which need protection from a variety of threats such as new housing developments remain safe. They do this by engaging with residents and visitors, and encouraging safe and responsible enjoyment of our coastline.

Ian from the Coast Project explains the biggest achievement of the project:

‘The biggest achievements for me are the records we hold for the winter birds that return to our shore line every year. I don’t look for any achievement, for me it is about doing our best for those birds and the habitat they come to visit every year.’

Ian from the Coast Project explains the long term aims of the project:

‘The long term aim is to do as much as possible for the wildlife we share our coastline with, the human race keeps taking without a thought for any other species or what effect it will have on our planet.’

The Coast Project is our local hero, it is always helping to ensure the North East coastline is protected from damage. It keeps the Coastline the way it should be and assures that human impacts aren’t too costly for the natural environment. We should all aim to do more in order to protect our coastlines, ensuring that earth is a safe space for all.
