PEOPLE are being encouraged to turn their household waste into food for their garden by making compost.
Durham International Compost Awareness Week, which runs until Sunday, May 10, Durham County Council urges residents to turn organic waste into compost which is good for the garden and reduces how much ends up in the bin.
Rachel Gatland, waste strategy and policy officer at Durham County Council, said: “More than 30 per cent of the average household’s waste can be composted and, although many are already doing it, we want more people to get involved.”
The council and getcomposting.com have teamed up to offer price reductions on selected compost bins, visit the website getcomposting.com or call 0844-5714444 for details.
People can find out more about how to make compost at an event in Durham Market Place on Saturday, May 9, between 9am and 1pm.
