A FOOTBALL team that changes in the street has come under fire from a village resident.
Most people living in Skelton, near York, have accepted the sight of muddy semi-naked players from Skelton FC as part of village life.
But now one woman has complained to the parish council about the sight of naked men outside her window.
Parish councillor Sue Robinson said: "The lads have been changing on the streets for the last 50 years. As far as I know, they only go down to their underpants.
"A lady complained to our clerk that she had looked out of her window and seen naked men, but I am sure she must be mistaken.
"I think it is hilarious. I know a lady in her 80s who told me this week that she was coming down to camp there to get a better view."
Club secretary Scott Birkley, of Skelton, said the team had nowhere else to get changed.
He said: "Obviously it is not ideal, but what can we do? If it has been wet and muddy sometimes, we might whip our underpants off, but we are very discreet and do not go dancing around the street."
The pitch, off Brecksfield, is leased to the club by York City Council.
The authority has recently agreed to give the club a 20-year lease on the pitch to enable them to build changing rooms, which will cost at least £60,000.
Coun Robinson said: "We desperately need them because we have girls teams starting soon and we do not want them getting changed in the street."
