TWO generations of the same family joined forces for a charity swim at the weekend.
Nine-year-old Beth Lightfoot and her grandmother, Jen Capewell, who is 63, raised £200 for Macmillan Cancer Care through their efforts at Richmond Pool.
Beth, from Newbiggin, Richmond, swam a mile, while Mrs Capewell swam 1,000 metres.
Mrs Capewell had initially planned to swim half-a-mile, but went further than expected.
Beth, a pupil at Richmond Methodist School, learned to swim at the age of two and is a member of Richmond Dales Swimming Club.
"I swim twice a week, but I have never tried to swim a mile before," she said.
Mrs Capewell said: "I did a practice on Wednesday and I managed the half-mile distance, so I was fairly confident.
"Friends offered to buy us a hot chocolate drink when we finished, so that was something to look forward to while we were swimming."
