Whitfield League

First against second was always going to be a great encounter and so it proved when Kestrels played Cleveland Hall. Sadly for Hall, they found Mel Reay in scintillating form. Out of the eight netted by the Kestrels skipper the choice one was the cheeky backheel flick from Gemma Wilson's pass which left Hall keeper Julie McDonnell bemused.

There were gold star performances from Donna Lanaghan with two goals and Emma Redhead but the best performance came from Karen Scorer. For Hall, Claire Foy and Claire Lloyd put in credible performances but they were indebted to the keeping of Julie McDonnell. MoM: Julie McDonnell (Cleveland Hall)

In a free-flowing match with Jovial Monks it was Almost Athletic who provided the early threats with some brilliant wing play from youngster Alice Thwaites.

Her battle against the ever-improving Rachel Davison was intriguing throughout. For Monks, Madeliene Sweeney proved to be a tricky customer but she found the resilient Janet Worthington to just that. AA brought on Kate Sweeney and she was to open the scoring with a well-crafted goal before Debbie Baker equalised for Monks.

The second half saw Bev Robinson net twice for AA, new signing Becky Brass notch two corkers for Monks before Coralie Dickinson cleverly eluded the Monks defence on the edge of the box to put AA 4-3 in front. MoM: Karen Warrior (AA).

What seemed on paper like a close encounter saw Lumley canter home against City. City started brightly with the talented Becky Welch in fine form but when Sarak took control the result was never in doubt. Ably supported by Dani Black and Louise Winter, Sarah put City to the sword and despite a rare goal from Nic Annison Lumley ran out easy winners.

EDF versus Vixens saw a bright and entertaining game the lead flowed between the sides with Vixens' brilliant goal poacher Andrea Hope scoring yet another outstanding hat-trick while for EDF Naomi Hird led the line with her usual aplomb.

Goals ensued at either end and Vixens would have been further ahead but for some outstanding defending by Dawn Wainright. A 4-4 draw proved a fair result for both. MoM: Linda Nixon (Vixens).

Spennymoor Ladies

Spennymoor Ladies were caught on the hop when Teesside opened the scoring on five minutes with a shot from 25 yards, keeper Steph Hartley stood no chance.

A pacey match had both sides playing very good football, a Fay Burn's ball to Kelly Rushworth set Katie Huntington up for Spenny's first goal on 23 minutes. Only seven minutes later midfielder Kirsty Williams ran with the bounce and scored a beauty from a Kari Rostron cross. Eight minutes later a pass from Leigh Williams to Rushworth put Kirsty Williams through again for her second, Moors' third.

Teesside played some good passing football, especially Leanne Anderson and Sam Farrell with help from Lisa Rutter. Kari Rostron got Moors' fourth with a superb cross from Sam Clay on 65. Kari went on to get her brace four minutes later when good footwork between Kirsty Finlayson and Katie Huntington set her up.

This game was end-to-end and a pleasure to watch. Teesside's second goal came after a goalmouth tussle, while trying to clear the ball right back Fay Burn put it into the bottom corner of the net for them.

Defenders Elaine Behan and Lindsay Robinson closed ranks after that and nothing got past them, the game ending 5-2 in Moors' favour. Nadine Dyer and Sarah B Jackson came on as subs with 20 minutes to go. Moors player of the match was Kari Rostron.

Spennymoor are away Sunday to Sunderland Nissan which promises to be a tough game.

On November 5 Moors are at home to Cleveland Hall in the league cup, kick-off is 2pm and everybody is invited to support the Ladies. The bar will be open.

South Durham Royals

Scunthorpe United Ladies were the visitors to The Stadium, Shildon and in a keenly-fought first half Royals had the best of the chances but neither side could break the deadlock.

Both teams came out in the second half looking to score and Royals came close through Kerry Denham, Jen Jennings and Tracey Swales. The deadlock was finally broken on 65 minutes when Royals' Kerry Denham skipped past two defenders to set-up Debbie Stansmore to score the only goal of the game which gave Royals all three points. Lady of the match for Royals was Kerry Denham.

Next home game is on Sunday when Royals entertain Hull City in the first round proper of the Women's FA Cup, kick-off is 1pm.

The Development team were also in action against Lumley, gaining a comprehensive win.

Royals led 3-0 at half time with goals from Vicky Wray, Jen Jennings and an Alex Saunders penalty. Royals went on to win 7-0 with Jennings and Wray doubling their first half tally.
