A SCHOOL is in mourning after the sudden death of a popular teenage student.

Bobbie Dennis, 15, collapsed on the playing fields of Northallerton College and died in hospital.

Bobbie, who lived with his family in Romanby, Northallerton, had been involved in a PE lesson when he fell to the ground having suffered a brain haemorrhage.

Paramedics were quickly on the scene, but were unable to revive him and the youngster was pronounced dead in hospital.

The incident, on the last day before the half-term holidays, left students and staff at the college shocked and distraught.

Associate principal Steve Merifield said yesterday: “Bobbie was a highly likeable, positive and popular young man. His family and close friends understandably are devastated and distressed.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family.”

Students are due back at the college on Monday, when year ten to 13 students will be assembled to be told about the tragedy by Mr Merifield.

Year ten students are also taking exams that day, and the college intends to call in counsellors to offer support to students that may need it.

Mr Merifield said: “The support will be there for children and families if they need it.”

An assembly to celebrate Bobbie’s life may also be held at the college in the future, should his family wish it.

A tribute page – RIP Bobbie Dennis – has been set up on the Facebook website and has already attracted hundreds of views.

One tribute read: “My heart goes out to your family, and most of all your mum, watch over her and keep her safe.

You will be so proud to see the way your friends are coping at such a tragic time.

“I hope your lovely family can take a little bit of comfort in all the wonderful messages that have been sent for a very popular person, who was obviously loved so much and will never be forgotten.”
