TWO well-deserved wickets for Chris Rushworth and two fortunate ones for Steve Harmison helped to reduce Warwickshire from 61 without loss to 90 for five.

But the introduction of Scott Borthwick for two overs before tea took the pressure off as he conceded 15 runs an d the visitors reached 115 for five at tea.

Rushworth has followed his five-wicket haul in Sunday’s CB 40 win against Nottinghamshire with another excellent performance.

Why at least one of his four confident lbw appeals in his opening spell did not go his way only umpire Steve O’Shaughnessy knows.

Rushworth conceded only one run in his first six overs and got his rewards in his second spell when he bowled Darren Maddy off his pads then took out Rikki Clarke’s middle stump second ball.

With Jamie Harrison also bowling tightly, Varun Chopra and Ian Westwood scored only 30 runs in the first 20 overs.

They had accelerated to 61 in the 30th when Harmison came on for his second spell and left-hander Westwood slapped the second ball, a long hop, straight to Paul Collingwood at cover.

Collingwood then returned to second slip and caught Will Porterfield, who edged asn airy drive at Ben Stokes.

Chopra departed for 29 when he was caught down the leg side by Phil Mustard off Harmison, then Rushworth’s double strike had Warwickshire rocking.
