MYSTERY surrounds the death of a man who fell off his bike.
The incident happened on Gatherley Road in Catterick Bridge, near Richmond.
Members of the public made efforts to revive the man at 7.42am this morning, but were unsuccessful.
He was travelling towards the traffic lights at the junction of Gatherley Road and the B6271 from Catterick Bridge on a blue and white bike and was wearing a yellow high-visability jacket.
Police said they do not know what caused the man to fall off his bike or how he died.
Traffic officer Claire Sawyer said: βTo assist our investigation and help piece together the circumstances leading up to the incident, I would like anyone who saw the cyclist on Gatherley Road this morning at around 7.30am to 7.40am to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, option two, and ask for Claire Sawyer.β
A post-mortem is due to be carried out to determine the cause of death, but it is not being treated as a collision.
