ONE of the region’s steepest roads is expected to be closed until mid-afternoon, after a lorry shed a load of steel girders.
The incident happened on the A170 Sutton Bank, near Thirsk, North Yorkshire, at about 9.45am today.
A blue DAF articulated lorry spilled its load of iron girders, hitting two cars, a blue Volkswagen Golf and a grey Jaguar X-Type.
A spokesman for North Yorkshire Police said: “Fortunately, the occupants of the vehicles escaped uninjured, however the road is completely blocked.
“A local farmer has been helping to remove the debris from the road but the girders which weigh around half-a-ton are too heavy for him to move.
“The road is expected to be closed until around 2pm to allow for the girders and the damaged vehicles to be recovered.”
