POLICE have arrested a man on suspicion of false imprisonment after a stand-off in Stockton overnight.

A section of Yarm Road was cordoned off by police following a report of a disturbance at a house at 3.50pm yesterday.

Two men, aged 31 and 43, were in the house when police arrived.

The 43-year-old left of his own accord at around 6pm, but the second man remained in the property while he spoke with officers.

He left the house at 3.30am this morning, and the road was reopened at 3.50am.

A spokesman for Cleveland Police said a 31-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of false imprisonment, and remains in custody today.

Superintendent Ciaron Irvine said: "I would like to reassure residents that this was an isolated incident and thank them for their patience while officers worked to bring this incident to a safe conclusion."
