Cockfield Quoits Club were crowned division 2 champions at the end of August and to celebrate, the team are holding a presentation night on Saturday 17th Sept in the Middle House.

Along with the presentation of trophies to team members and the ‘pie & pea’ supper, the bit I’m most looking forward to is the live entertainment with the welcome return of Rick Jackson.

Rick has always been a popular entertainer in Cockfield and has appeared many times in both pubs over the years. The lad can sing anything from hard rock to ballads and is especially good at all the Irish songs, but when I heard he’d moved to Blackpool, I doubted if he’d make the journey for a couple of hours work. Fortunately for us, he is!

It turns out that Rick sold his pub in Coundon and bought the Manhattan hotel at 15 Dean Street on Blackpool’s South Shore.

Rick’s been telling me what a good move it was and how popular the hotel is with visitors and, at £20 per person for ‘room only’ and a cooked breakfast costing less than three quid, I’m not surprised!

With the illuminations in full swing and the liking Cockfild folk have for a weekend in Blackpool, why not give Rick’s hotel a try? One thing is for sure; if Rick’s as good at running a hotel as he is at singing, you’ll have a great time! He can be contacted on 07711485518.

Anyway, see you in the Middle House on Saturday from 8.00pm.
