A MAN is to appear in court tomorrow accused of causing the death of a cyclist by careless driving.

Daniel Mackay was at the wheel of a van which collided with the female cyclist on the northbound carriageway of the A189 Spine Road, in Cramlington, Northumberland, shortly before 7.15am on Wednesday April 13.

The cyclist, 43-year-old Elizabeth Brown, of Jesmond, in Newcastle, was taken to Wansbeck General Hospital after the collision but died from injuries suffered in the accident.

Mr Mackay, of Cross Street, Houghton-le-Spring, on Wearside, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving, and bailed pending further police inquiries.

Five months on and the Northumbria force announced today that 23-year-old Mr Mackay has been charged with causing death by careless driving.

He is to make his first court appearance before South East Northumberland magistrates, at Bedlington, tomorrow.
