A PENSIONER from the North-East was airlifted to hospital this afternoon after being trapped in her car for an hour following an accident on the A66 in Cumbria.
The 73-year-old driver was freed by firefighters and flown to North Tees Hospital, Stockton, in 20 minutes by the Great North Air Ambulance (GNAAS).
The accident happened at around 4pm on a single stretch of the A66 at Warcop, between Brough and Appleby, when the car left the road and hit a tree. No other vehicle was involved.
The woman, from Billingham, Teesside, suffered arm and leg injuries and was given pain relief at the scene by the GNAAS doctor. Her condition is not thought to be life-threatening.
