THE extraordinary true tale of North-East miners inspired by art is coming to Darlington.
The Pitmen Painters, by Newcastle playwright Lee Hall and the city's Live Theatre, is destined to attract sell-out numbers at the town's Civic Theatre in July. Newcastle's Journal Tyne Theatre will host performances in August.
Original cast members from critically acclaimed runs at the National Theatre and Broadway have agreed to a second tour. Christopher Connel, Deka Walmsley, David Whitaker and Brian Lonsdale portray the Ashington group of miners who made national headlines over their paintings in the Thirties.
Fellow Geordie actor Trevor Fox, who had the formidable reputation of knowing every male acting part as understudy, replaces Michael Hodgson.
