ON my way home today from watching a Northern League game there was an interesting phone-in on a national radio station regarding falling crowds at Premier League/Football League games and what can be done to attract more people.

As a follower of a Northern League team I am totally perplexed as to why so many people do in fact go to these games. For a fraction of the cost they can watch local teams in the Northern League where there is certainly more commitment by the players and in my opinion the entertainment value is far higher than at the “bigger clubs”.

All Northern League clubs offer excellent facilities where one can attend the game in secure surroundings, free of violence and supporters can purchase alcohol, other refreshments and club memorabilia at far cheaper prices.

I would urge anyone with spare time on a Saturday afternoon to go along to the local Northern league game and I am sure they will be highly impressed with the standards of the game we all love.
