A YOUNG performing arts group in east Durham is staging a production called off last year due to the snow.

MalDo productions, based in Seaham and Easington, was busy with final rehearsals at the weekend for The Wiz – including songs and dancing.

MalDo spokesman Sarah Taylor said: “The Wiz is The Wizard of Oz with attitude.

It will be a great family night out. We were originally meant to present it in early December, but then with the unexpected snow we had to cancel four nights before opening night.

“The cast were understandably devastated, but after a lot of planning and negotiating, we now have the new dates.”

The play will be staged at the Easington Welfare Centre, Seaside Lane, South Back, Easington, at 7.15pm tomorrow and on Thursday.

Since forming in October 2009, MalDo have staged Fame and Ooh Fabulous, written by its director Wayne Malcolm.

Tickets for the show are £7 and £6 for adults and £5 for concessions. For further information, call Catherine Blakelock on 07723-302561.
