A MAN has died after being hit by a train in North Yorkshire.

The incident occurred just after 6pm on Saturday near Seamer, between Malton and Scarborough.

A British Transport Police spokesman said officers had attended an incident close to Brinnington Crossing, in Willoughby, near Scarborough, after reports a person had been struck by a train.

The spokesman said: "Officers from the BTP and North Yorkshire Police attended the incident at 6.09pm and it is currently being treated as non-suspicious.

"Paramedics from Yorkshire Ambulance also attended, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

"A file will be prepared for the coroner and the train involved was the 5.47pm Scarborough to Liverpool Lime Street service."

Rail operators First Transpennine have set up a replacement bus service between the two stations while an investigation takes place.
