Things seem quiet in Cockfield at the moment and there is very little excitement or craic to write about. So, until there is, I thought I might take the opportunity to publish some old photos of people from the village; it might stir a few memories!

I wonder if anyone of you older generation recognise any of the folk in this picture taken in the bar at Cockfield Club in 1963. I must admit, although I’m in the picture myself, I could only name seven of the eleven.

A close up of the photograph reveals that a pint of Fed Best was 1s/4d and Fed Ordinary was 1s/1d. This sounds very cheap but using an average earnings calculator… http://www.measuringworth.com/ukcompare/result.php It actually works out at £2.31 a pint in 2009. So, with the way prices have shot up in the last twelve months it’s about the equivalent of today’s prices!

Anyway, with thanks to my mum, June Dowson, here are the names from left to right.

Harry Dowson, June Dowson, Nigel Dowson, Norman Watson, Bob Vickers, Lloyd Kipling, Ernie Archer, George Robinson, Con Clarke, George Robson and John Dunning.
