TRIBUTES have been paid to a 12-year-old boy who was killed after he was hit by two cars while crossing a road on his way to school.

Alexander John Bradley, known as Alex, was hit by the vehicles shortly before 7.45am on Monday, close to his home in West Heslerton, near Malton, North Yorkshire.

Alex, who attended Norton College, was crossing the A64 and was heading towards a bus stop when he was hit by a Renault Scenic and a Transit van.

He was taken to Scarborough General Hospital, where he later died.

Alex’s parents, who have not been named, paid tribute to their son. “Alex was the most wonderful son, brother and grandson. He is loved by many and will be greatly missed by all those people whose lives he touched.

“Alex’s family would like to commend the emergency services for their relentless efforts to save Alex.”

Phil Loftus, headteacher of Norton College, in Norton, near Malton, described Alex as a bright and popular student.

Mr Loftus said: “Alex’s friends say he brought a lot of life into every classroom. They are starting to talk about how they will remember him.

“He was a very popular pupil and friend to many. He will be sorely missed by his friends, classmates and teachers.

The college wishes to convey our deepest sympathy to his family.”

The A64 was closed in both directions for more than eight hours as police investigated.

Police have urged any witnesses to the collision to come forward, in particular the drivers of two vehicles who passed by the accident scene moments after it occurred.
