FIRE fighters were called to rescue a dog trapped on ice in a frozen river this afternoon.
Crews were called to help a man trying to retrieve his dog on the River Ouse, near Milliennium Bridge in York at 1.19pm.
They used a nine metre ladder and lines to rescue the dog, which was called Duffy, and reunited it with its grateful owner.
Police and fire crews have issued a warning about the dangers of walking on frozen rivers and lakes in recent weeks after a series of incidents which saw people falling through the ice.
