QUESTION
Our one-year-old spayed female cat Ella has times when she is vomiting and sometime diarrhoea. They are never so often as to worry us but I thought I would check. Is this serious she vomits about once a week and mostly after food.
Pippa
ANSWER
Dear Pippa
Vomiting once weekly should not occur in a cat of this age. I would be wondering whether she is eating too fast. Cats should be fed many small meals a day rather than large ones. The possibility of worms at this age is also very high as if giardia (a protozoal parasite) and food intolerances. I would suggest converting onto a high quality diet like feline maintenance from hills fed dry at 70gms daily split would mean she would never have a full stomach and this may solve the problems. I would also worm her as well in case she has a problem.
