QUESTION

My cat vomits on the average of about every five days. He has done this for about 18 months. I have tried hairball food and also Laxotone, but I can't get the Laxotone down him very well. I also dewormed him. He is healthy (had blood tests done), playful, and has a shiny coat. He did not do this until I moved about two years ago. Prior to that, however, I had moved two other times with no problem. I am at a loss as to what to do and he is ruining my carpet.

ANSWER

This is a very distressing condition for cat owners. It is also one of the most difficult conditions for vets to treat as very often there is no medical reason, all tests come back as normal. It could possibly be a condition called plasmocytic gastritis which in laymen terms may be a food allergy. It would be worth trying Hill's Z diet, which has zero allergy causing proteins in it. If that fails long-term steroids may help.
