One person had to be led to safety last night by firefighters from a smoke-filled flat.
The blaze broke out in the kitchen of the flat in Wrynose Gardens, Stockton, at about 11.30pm on Wednesday.
Two fire crews from Stockton attended and after the person was helped outside, they were taken by ambulance to hospital. No details of their injuries are available.
The flat suffered total smoke damage and five per cent fire damage to the kitchen.
