POWER has been restored to 288 homes which had been experiencing five days of prolonged cuts.
Energy distributors CE Electric UK confirmed yesterday afternoon that emergency repair work to cables in Darlington had been successful.
The homes, in an area off North Road around Havelock Street and Gurney Street, had suffered interruptions to their electricity supply since December 18.
The interruptions were caused by a fault on an underground cable affected by the recent severe weather conditions.
A spokeswoman for CE Electric UK, said: "CE Electric UK would like to apologise for the inconvenience caused to customers and has carried out the work as quickly as possible to minimise further disruption to residents.
"CE Electric UK will continue to keep a close eye on the local electricity supply to ensure the repairs have been fully effective and supplies are permanently restored."
Yesterday, the power was off from 10.45am to about 11.30am to allow engineers to complete the necessary repairs.
