QUESTION
I have just taken on a cat from the CPL who has a very greasy coat. The only unaffected area is on the top of her head. The grease is fully through the length of the coat - which is long. It has been confirmed that she has a dermotological problem but nothing for the cure has been suggested. She was given vitamin B injections before we took her on which helped but not significantly. We are looking for any suggestions of cures that will help her skin produce less grease and correct the production th the correct level. She has been tested for Thyroid ect and the results came back clear. We are keen to find a result without bathing if possible even homeopathy etc. Any advice would be most appreciated.

ANSWER
Dear Sally
It is difficult to suggest a cure for your cat although I would be fairly sure homeopathy won't help. I would think that an approach to the skin would be sensible so I would suggest you ask your vet for a skin work up including biopsies -- this should localise the mechanisms which have gone wrong and then, hopefully, a remedial treatment can be instigated. I would also advise a full biochemistry blood profile to ensure that in particular liver function is good.
