A MAN whose body was found near a railway line died of hypothermia, police said today.

Michael Swift, 36, was discovered at around 12.20pm on Tuesday, close to Seaton Carew train station, in Hartlepool.

Officers are now investigating the circumstances surrounding his death which is being treated as unexplained.

Detective Inspector Stuart Mellish said: "We are currently working to piece together Michael's movements prior to his death.

"It's crucial that anyone who has had contact with him over the last few weeks contacts police as we believe they will be able to help us in our investigation."

Investigators want to hear from people who saw Mr Smith, from Hartlepool, close to the tracks.
