A NORTH-EAST football club is joining forces with the British Red Cross to host a sports first aid session for young people.
The youngsters, all aged between 11 and 16, won the chance to train with Newcastle United players next Tuesday.
The competition was held as part of the British Red Cross Life Live it campaign, which aims to help young people across the UK become more confident, prepared and willing to react to emergency situations – from sporting injuries, to asthma attacks or diabetic emergencies.
Young people could enter in two ways – by answering a first aid quiz or by getting friends and family to vote for them on Facebook to win a place.
Koen Usher, 11, from Richmond, North Yorkshire, said: “I’m a massive football fan and have always wanted to meet the team – having the opportunity to have a kick about with Danny Simpson really is a dream come true.”
Newcastle United’s Danny Simpson said: “We’re delighted to be working with British Red Cross to help young people learn skills that will benefit them throughout their lives.”
