A SCHOOL'S plans for a teaching block for music, drama and teaching are progressing.
Durham City councillors approved the demolition of the Salter Block at Durham High School for Girls, in Farewell, Durham. It will be replaced with a two-storey structure.
It is also proposed to regrade the area to the west of the building to form an amphitheatre-style space for an external performance and display area.
The choice of materials will reflect those in the Hurworth building which has just been completed.
Recommending approval, planning officers said the application would remove a building of poor quality and replace it with one of a modern design which would offer greater learning opportunities for to pupils.
