A CRACKDOWN on fly-tipping and dog mess has continued with two further prosecutions.

Easington District Council has promised action to clean up the district and, last month, secured two convictions at Durham Magistrates' Court.

A 28-year-old Trimdon man was fined £100 with £120 costs after being found guilty of fly-tipping, while a Horden man received an identical punishment after allowing his dog to foul public land without cleaning it up.

Both were caught by district council wardens.

Council spokesman George Patterson said: "We hope that these prosecutions serve as a reminder to residents that such irresponsible behaviour is not acceptable.

"We are determined to stamp out nuisance activities such as littering, fly-tipping and dog fouling.

"Our wardens patrol the district daily, on the lookout for offenders, and those caught will be given an on-the-spot fine.

"If they fail to pay, they could face a court appearance and a larger fine."
