POLICE patrols have also been stepped up at Newcastle Airport.
However, a spokeswoman for Northumbria Police said: "There is nothing to suggest at this stage that there is any specific threat to Newcastle International Airport".
Flights are continuing as normal, but relatives are being urged to drop off travellers rather than entering the airport to reduce crowding.
