A PAIR of energetic police officers put on their yomping boots and went back to their roots to raise money for charity.
Inspector Tony Green and PC Anthony Harrison, both former Royal Marines, travelled to Plymouth to enter a half-marathon in aid of the Royal Marines Association.
The group ran the 13.5-mile track together in camouflage trousers, boots and specially made T-shirts. Towards the end of the run, they all put on their green berets.
The pair, based in Hartlepool, raised £2,500 for the cause, adding to a £40,000 total from the whole group.
Inspector Green said: “When we were Royal Marines we ran miles and miles very regularly, if not every day, so it was apt that we chose a half-marathon to raise money. In fact, the final test before passing out is a 30-mile run and march.”
The money will go to dependants of Royal Marines killed in action or those who have been injured in conflict to support their independent living and recovery.
