GLAXO has short-listed Barnard Castle, in County Durham, for a new biopharmaceuticals plant that could create 1,000 new jobs.
The pharmaceuticals giant said tonight that Barnard Castle is one of the three sites it has shortlisted for the £300m investment.
The plan was originally revealed in The Northern Echo 11 months ago and confirmed by Chancellor George Osborne to Parliament this afternoon.
Glaxo is also investing millions into its exist plant in Barnard Castle.
The current factory site will become a centre of excellence for manufacturing topical creams and ointments.
