SNOOKER player Steve Davis has gone up against an emerging talent at an exhibition match.

Manasawin Phetmalaikul, known as Quid, was one of eight people to take on the sixtime world champion.

Davis was at Darlington Snooker Club on Saturday for one of the venue’s regular exhibition nights.

Names from the 170 onlookers were drawn out of a hat for the chance to play Davis. He also performed trick shots and a comedy routine.

Quid, 11, whose father owns The Royal Thai restaurant, in Parkgate, Darlington, was the youngest player to take on Davis, but failed to beat him.

Quid’s coach said that the youngster had a natural talent for the game.

Club licensee Peter Everett said: “We had a great night. It was excellent, absolutely spot on.”

Davis also recorded a video message for The Northern Echo’s Local Heroes Awards, which will take place on Thursday in Hardwick Hall Hotel, Sedgefield, County Durham.
